Lower Calories: Causes, Effects

***I wrote the following as a response to a winter5% teammate's blog who had been eating fewer calories (~900 day) than her plan suggested lately and had been sick and had a big weight loss, then heart palpitations and anxiety for a few hours

I also have consumed lower calories; I just restarted spark with the new year, and the first few days I was straining not to eat my full calories down to the last 1, but then in the last couple of days...low. I *did* do a visualization of making my stomach smaller (a 'virtual' or 'mind' lap-band, so to speak) and one day I was in a different head space because of religion/spirituality that kicked mine off.

When I was thinking about the imaginary lap-band, I did a little research on stomach size. I always just assumed it got bigger, with a bit of stretchability, if one was a big eater. Turns out it's just the stretchability that changes, not so much the size of the stomach, and stretches more if one is a binger (which I am/have been); when one doesn't do binging behaviour-over time, like a month-the stomach loses the extra stretchability, from not being used (another use it or lose it scenario, like muscle tone). Over the holidaze, I didn't binge partly because food was very consistent, though some of the holiday meals were big, but I had much more a sensation of being full, unlike when I binge-then it's like a bottomless pit (until the food hangover, when I feel sick, sometimes from just eating so much of one thing).

***Some wrote that maybe they were eating less due to tracking food now, or being sick***

I actually like the theory of tracking, which I started with the new year, leading to mindfulness about eating. But I think there IS something physiological with how many calories the body craves too. And also that the feeling woozy is probably due to low blood sugar.

I love the idea of a "virtual lap-band"! Something to add to my daily mindfulness.

Tracking has been better so far in new year for me. Trying to build habits that will be harder to slip out of.

Tracking was a game changer for me because I had the information to help me learn what was and was not supporting my body.

That was the one thing my doctor warned about - low blood sugar. Eat to prevent that but tracking keeps me honest.

Thanks for sharing the details about how the stomach stretches. That's interesting.
