Blogday 17(-7)_100days: *Finishing, from 'Madam Secretary' {*Importance of}...plus Hillary told us

 So here's the thing...I'm a good starter. I didn't used to think so, because I didn't count planning as part of starting, but it is, it *really*is, and I've gotten good at planning, partly due to Spark, plus I really enjoy the potential in a good beginning.

But was just lying down, considering sleeping...and had switched TV from SNL to CBS where they run re-runs of Madam Secretary, late night on Saturdays, and tonight, ep 4.05, 'Persona Non Grata', where Elizabeth M.Sec is trying to stop global trafficking.

{True factoid: it's very likely this episode is based particularly on Hillary Clinton: she was one of the VERY 1st major politicians to first publicly *call out* and name the enslavement of women, children and all people as 'human trafficking'...as feminist academics had for decades...when she was in newly independent Ukraine, in the 90's when she was still FLOTUS, after Russian mobsters and government were doing a brisk business prostituting Ukrainian women in both the Bosnian War, and as an 'export' business;
also, 2nd factoid: being part of the Lgbtq community, I have a gay male friend originally from a country that has been recently called out for it's dehumanizing and murderous treatment of gay men; so...before THAT was as at all publicized, my friend had been jailed, for months, for being gay, and tortured, and knew others who were killed, and somehow international human rights organizations made their cases public; so, while Hillary was SoS, she got him, and a few of the other gay men, out of the country; he became a US citizen so he could vote for her. She would have been such a MUCH better POTUS and the world so much better if the rus hadn't messed with our elections! Not just environmental issues, human rights of immigrants, of women, of lgbtq, but also including COVID...*SHE* *S*T*R*O*N*G*L*Y* believes in science, and wouldn't have removed the US monitors from China, nor scrapped the Pandemic Response team, PLUS she had a very detailed plank in what ended up as the Dem platform (that not even Bernie wanted removed) about how to END SYSTEMIC RACISM, in institutions. In 2015. Hillary was right. About all of it.}
....
Anyway, back to Spark & Madam Secretary...on the show M.Sec's husband Henry told their middle daughter that when he was in the military, the most important thing he learned: that the *most* important thing in life was FINISHING, but 'you can't finish if you don't start.' I've started on Spark a number of times (always on this account, to keep myself honest, plus...less work) and here, as I'm FINALLY seeming to be approaching the end of my beginning (& under covid stress and duress) I'm reflecting, inconclusively, on how I'll finish.

Well, however I'll be done, I *am* making progress. I'm done 10% +/- depending on when I define my start (last summer or this Jan) and just joined a 'casual' team on the summer 5% team. (link for team in my teams list), and that's very specific, with a defined start and end. there was something else, but I'm yawning and afraid I'll lose all this typing...Good night!

    It makes me so sad and horrified to read what your friend went through for being gay. I am so glad Clinton helped him.

    Congrats on your progress!

    I am definitely a starter of many projects, but I tend to lose interest and I don't finish more often than I want to admit. I have so many unfinished arts and crafts projects around here that I think I want to finish, but they don't ever get pushed up to a priority.

    I started SparkPeople in 2010, and I did okay with exercising, nutrition, and weight loss for awhile, but then I had some health issues that I felt sorry for myself for, so I ate comfort foods and didn't exercise like I should. I'm finally, after all these years, down to my goal weight, and I've been at maintenance for about 6 weeks now. What's important to me right now is to know that I CAN finish or complete some goals (and like you said, those that are specific with a defined start and end are best for me, too), but I will never be finished working at keeping my weight where I want it and putting my quest for good health at the top of my list.

    Best wishes at completing your next goal!

    I'm a fan of the saying "No matter how slow you go, you're still lapping people on the couch."

    I've been on SparkPeople since at least 2010, but I didn't get really active until 2011 when I switched to low carb.

    I'm coming up on my ninth low carb anniversary and I'm still nowhere near my goal weight, though my health has been pretty good since the switch - 62 years old and zero medications.

    I feel like I'm just this month restarting my commitment. I think it's because I ditched the wine every night once COVID closed the PA liquor stores.

    So, yeah, the end of the beginning really resonates with me too!

    Oh man, I can only agree w/your assessment that things would be WAAAAAAYyyy different if the election had gone differently . . . had it been ALLOWED to unfold as it should have.

    For sure planning is a part of starting!

    LOVE your blog.
