Goals review, week 1-summer5%, health & other goals: Blog29/100(-22)

I've lost about 30 pounds this year, which is about half of where I wanted to be, at this point*, but covid threw me (& pretty much all of us) for a loop...I left spark for awhile as I saw what was coming. But come back to spark I did, with a chip on my shoulder about the early ignorant comments, some on teams, some on the feed...slowly, hesitantly back. I had to, needed to, because, on my own, especially without the tracker, I had started to undo my initial, beginning-of-the-year, hard won losses. Back here sparking I found motivation, advice, support, primarily on various teams (I'm a member of a lot of them, though active primarily on a couple handful) and also the sparkticles really reinforce motivation and add great information and perspectives to think about.
{{*my big goal for the year was, (maybe still is? I haven't decided to revise it down yet)
100 pounds loss this year; so my goal was 10 pounds of loss every month for 10 months;
really 8 pounds of loss for 12 months, since most months have 4 weeks & 2 pounds per week loss)...with a little, tiny bit of leeway to work with...52 weeks x 2lbs/week=104 pounds) so it depends on framing|| it could be either 6 months x 10 pounds = 60 OR x 8 pounds = 48...which is a little better, closer to 30) PLUS I was down a couple more recently...but then the scale went back up, then stuck, for about a fortnight.}} I also, to myself, started calculating how to lose more now, during summer, when everything is in some ways easiest and cheapest and freshest for healthy nutrition and movement, more than 5%...but realized I'd be happy with 5%
I *have* been pretty good about following my health plan this week, especially fitness minutes: 3 days over 2 hours, 2 days over an hour, my ‘off’ day was 25 min, plus whatever I do on today, which will probably hit over 2 hours again. Also I hadn’t recently been ON it for water, though the 5% challenge starting has upped that, as has lots of movement...I’d been recently somewhat dehydrated, which might be part of why I’ve been less careful about eating optimally, though no big binges, & diet’s been pretty healthy, just some slight portion control mess-ups. Also haven’t been doing specific abs or push-ups workouts, but have been re-thinking those to some extent, per sparkticles, & also haven’t done much yoga, until tonight, nor pilates/tai chi, but getting cardio minutes max’d has turned out to be the focus this week. I'm also realizing I sometimes lay out a bunch of complicated goals for myself, but reality and my own inertia pushes me to simplify, so maybe I should start simpler to begin with...
As to other goals, I haven't made great progress on them. I haven't coded nor written, nor read in amounts I had wanted to, all week (I really need to work on adding these in week 2); I have done a little bit of gardening but that was both by necessity of the over week-long heatwave of 90's with high humidity, and limited by same. Lastly tabs down to 13? Not currently...though it's built up a bit this week, but my current ~160 is still probably fewer than I usually would have if it wasn't on my goals radar at all. I find Sparkticles, in some ways my worst habit, because I open all the links on the side, bottom, etc. Oth, gives me a choice in my 6 spark reads for the day. Have been trying to fave&close them sooner.
So...always room for improvement!

You have put so much thought into your weight-loss and exercise program, and I'm always amazed when I read your blogs about what all you're doing. You are rocking it with your cardio fitness program! .
When I'm concentrating on weight loss and exercising, I'm not good at accomplishing a whole lot of other goals, either. You mentioned reading, and I look around at all the unread books that I have around this house that are never going to get read at the rate I'm going. I think the main thing is to take time to do something for ourselves that "feeds our soul," even if it's just for 5 to 10 minutes a day.
Sometimes I think one of my goals ought to be something like, "Accomplish 80% of your goals this week." Maybe then I wouldn't be so hard on myself when I can't possibly do all the things that I set out to do.
Thanks for the art supply goodie. I agree wholeheartedly that one can never have too many art supplies!
Have a great weekend!

OH this process, no matter what, is not a straight line, not a straight path. There will be detours. Most importantly you have come back. Taht's what counts!
