Self-Designed Indoor Low Impact Workout: Blog33/100(-22)
Posted this on a spark friend's page recently, when she had to cut a workout outdoors short.

What I do, often, to burn calories indoors (like the recent heatwaves we've been having when I didn't get outdoors early in the morning), is do a low-impact aerobics workout: I log this as:

"Aerobics, general, low impact (including Walk Away The Pounds)"

I make up my own steps while watching tv. Key to my method is to have a clock nearby, though I've also done it without, but I tend to do a move longer if it goes for a minute vs. something like 20 reps. I watch tons of news, & there's a 1 min ticker on the 'crawl' at the bottom, but I also just look at a clock often. I do 1 minute increments: march in place, lunges, toe touches, forward & side toe taps, etc., for about 10 minutes to warm up. Then add in arms, doing moves w/ & w/out weights on different days: biceps curls, side shoulder lifts, front shoulder lifts, press-ups above my head, all while doing the steps and marches. I also (especially toward the end) include some (mostly standing) yoga poses, with a bounce or a deeper stretch & back to keep it cardio, like triangle or warrior poses, though I sometimes do some floor work toward the end too.

Some of the steps I do:

- side to side steps, or step touches
- basic step-touch (forward & back)
- alternating hamsting curls, with optional arm raise-the-roofs
- high knee march-in-place
- pivot & reach
I compared my level of exertion by doing a Leslie Sansone Walk this Way on youtube, and it was the same (sometimes more if I speed up my work-out & do more hard moves like squats and lunges or heavier weights, or just with more exertion or speed).

So that's just another option to workout inside...not the same as being outside, but can still burn a similar amount of calories if you put the effort in! I did tons of dance workouts in the 80s, so knew this was basically what they did, choreographed to music. In the age of covid, if you are consuming all the statistics on news and latest confused messaging of the admin, it burns my stress away as I listen. Anyone else do something similar?

With this excessive heat, I've been having to do most of my exercises indoors lately. Like you, I dance around the house to music (50s Rock & Roll is my favorite), and sometimes I turn on Sousa marches, and off I go, marching and directing the music with my invisible baton!
Thanks for the links to the exercises.

Awesome exercise while indoors! I don’t watch TV, any TV, but I keep saying I need to start. I feel like I miss a lot. But then other times I don’t. Keep it going! Calorie torcher!
I play games with the clock when I’m on my trainer. I watch it like a hawk.
Have a great Tuesday,

I don't think I trust myself to stay focused enough. I like the idea of how you keep moving while you watch tv though. I just use my Amazon Prime to watch low impact workout videos or search youtube videos on my Ipad.
